Swinside Stone Circle

Although the stones are on private land belonging to the nearby Swinside Farm, there is a gate giving access to the stones. The stones form an almost perfect circle with a diameter of about 90 feet and contains over 50 stones, but it's purpose remains a mystery. It is thought to be of Bronze age origin, over 3,500 years old and consequently pre-dates the druids by many hundreds of years.

The stones can be reached by a two mile walk from A595, first on a minor lane to Crag Hall and then a walled stony track to the circle.
