This is a 12thC Norman church.

I always find old churches fascinating - from an architectural point of view, i'm not in the slightest bit religious! I find it a bit of a challenge to get a decent picture as the roof is always in darkness and the light streams through the windows giving burnt out highlights on the floor or walls. I was fascinated by the arches above the aisle to the altar. It was very dark when I came in and it took me a while to find all the light switches. When I did put the lights on they gave off a horrible yellow tungsten cast which I knew would look even worse in a photo so I set the white balance on my camera to counter-act that giving a blue appearance which i think is more natural. I don't use flash (haven't got one that big!) but take a series of pics at different exposures and then merge them all together on the PC to give me an 'average' photo which I then, in turn, play about with the highlights, midtones and shadows to get the result I want.
