Hardraw Force

Hardraw Force is a spectacular waterfall near Hawes in Wensleydale. It is claimed to be the highest single drop waterfall in the country (98ft). It is approached through the Green Dragon Inn (literally) at Hardraw, where a path leads into a wooded glen, once famous for brass band contests on account of it's accoustic properties. The path becomes slippery in wet weather beyond this part of the glen. The fall comes over a great overhang in the rocks, plunging clear into a pool at the bottom. The path traverses below the rocks and right behind the fall. It is possible to follow a vague path back to the pub on the opposite side of the stream.

Hardraw is on the Pennine Way and is the starting point for the ascent of Great Shunner Fell.
